More than 6,000 faithful alumni,
parents, grandparents, faculty, and friends
participated in Our Strong Band.
The Our Strong Band campaign took its name from the first line of the school song, “Amici”, in a celebration
of the loyalty and devotion of Woodberry’s extended
family. Led with vision, passion, and energy by
Headmaster Dennis Campbell and John Baker ’66, chair
of the Campaign Executive Committee, campaign
fundraising began on January 1, 2005. The effort got off
to a fast start when trustees of the R. B. Terry Charitable
Foundation stepped forward with a groundbreaking
leadership gift. The campaign entered its public
phase on November 8, 2008, during a gala kickoff for
hundreds of guests. Despite the economic downturn,
Our Strong Band continued to make steady progress.
By the close of the campaign, more than 6000 faithful
alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, and friends
had participated — their donations ranging from
small Amici Fund contributions to multi-million-dollar
pledges. Our Strong Band positions Woodberry Forest
School as one of a very few independent schools with
the resources necessary to chart a visionary course
toward a strong and vibrant future. As we tell the campaign’s story — we pay tribute to
every one of you who helped to make it a
resounding success.
